A Festival with Long-term Consequences
The three Belgium Pink Ribbonettes teams from Brussels, Turnhout and Lier joined forces and set up a composite team for the 10th Hong Kong Dragonboat Festival on 8th June in the centre of the Belgium city of Antwerp at the Kattendijkdok.
Although the only female and only BCS team in the 21 team strong competition, the Pink Ribbonettes gave a good performance and came 18th ranked. It was the first time that we paddled together in one boat representing all three official languages of Belgium - French, Dutch and German.
It was a fun day on and off the water with many supporter and fans following the paddlers to this event and cheering them on. The three Pink Ribbonettes teams are the only Dragon boat teams in Belgium that exercise regularly, it can be said the BCS brought the sport to this small European country.
Besides the great memories and new friendships, this festival was the starting point for a new exciting adventure ahead of us: it has been agreed that, for the first time in history, Belgium will be represented at the IBCPC Festival! We are thrilled to take part 2026 in France together with our French friends who will join us in this composite team.
